The Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) General Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. It was last open for four days in November, 2018.

Lowell, MA is about 25 miles northwest of Boston, MA.

 There were three ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Download and print the online application.
  2. Pick-up an application at the LHA office.
  3. Complete the application at the LHA office..

Once the paper application has been completed, it must have been either:

  1. Mailed to the LHA office.
  2. Dropped off at the LHA office.

This waiting list had the following preferences: Involuntary displacement from a natural disaster or government action, working families, Elderly, Disabled, Live, Work, or Attend School Locally, Victim of Domestic Violence, or Veterans.  

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.

Closed: 2, 3 and 4-Bedroom Section 8 Project-Based Voucher Waiting List

This waiting list is for Section 8 Project-Based Voucher rental housing assistance in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) last accepted Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications for 2, 3, and 4-bedroom apartments from January 22, 2024, until January 26, 2024. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply while the waiting list was open:

  1. Print the paper application.
  2. In person applications were accepted at the Mercier Center.

Once the application was completed, it was either dropped off or mailed to the Lowell Housing Authority.

This waiting list had the following preferences: 

  • Involuntarily displaced from a dwelling unit in the municipality of Lowell by natural disaster, by fire, by unwarranted landlord action, and by Government action including capital programs of the LHA.
  • Working head of household or working spouse, who has averaged 20 or more hours per week ofr at least 6 months, or person 62 years old or older or a person unable to work because of the extent of their disability
  • Legal resident of Lowell or a person working in Lowell or a person with job offer to work in Lowell.
  • A victim of domestic violence who has been relocated as verified by the police.
  • veteran as verified by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

This waiting list is for Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher rental housing assistance in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) last accepted Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from January 22, 2024, until January 26, 2024. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply while the waiting list was open:

  1. Print the paper application.

Open Until Further Notice: HUD Public Housing Waiting List

The Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) is accepting HUD Public Housing waiting list is currently open, since at least May, 2018, until further notice.

This waiting list has the following preferences: involuntarily displaced by government action, displaced by natural disaster, employed, elderly, disabled, live and/or work in Lowell, victim of domestic violence, or veteran.

There are three ways to apply while the waitlist is open:

  1.  Apply in person at the Public Housing office, located at 21 Salem St, Lowell, MA 01854; from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
  2. Print the paper application.
  3. Complete the online application.

It is not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list, by order of preferences.

Open Until Further Notice: Massachusetts State-Aided Public Housing Other Project Based Waiting List

The Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) is accepting General Massachusetts Public Housing waiting list applications for 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom apartments from November 17, 2018, until further notice

 There are three ways to apply while the waitlist is open:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Pick up an application at the LHA office located at LHA Public & Leased Housing Services Office located at 89 Appleton St., Lowell, MA 01853 during business hours M-F 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  3. Call the LHA (978) 364-5365 to request a paper application.

Once the paper application has been completed, it must be:

  1. Emailed to LHA at hbrackett@lhma.org.
  2. Faxed to the LHA at 866-551-2715

This waiting list has the following preferences: Homelessness caused by displacement from a natural disaster, government action, or domestic violence, veterans, working families.  

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.
