The Reno Housing Authority (RHA) is accepting Public Housing waiting list applications for Essex Manor, Stead Manor, Mineral Manor and Myra Birch Manor Apartments from April 15, 2024 at 8:00 am, until May 3, 2024 at 5:00 pm PT.

This waiting list is for the following properties:

Essex Manor - Located off Golden Valley exit & 395 North. 2 and 3-Bedroom Apartments.
Stead Manor - Located off Stead Blvd /Stead Airport exit & 395 N. 2 and 3-Bedroom Apartments.
Mineral Manor - Located off Wells Ave and 9 th St. 1, 2, 3 and 4-Bedroom Apartments.
Myra Birch Manor - Located off Neil Rd. 2-Bedroom Apartments.

This waiting list has the following preferences:

Non-subsidized: applicants who are not currently receiving any form of subsidized housing.
Residency: Currently reside in Washoe County, work or have recently been hired to work at a job located in Washoe County, Have graduated from or are currently enrolled in an education or training program that is located in Washoe County and is designed to prepare them for the job market.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

Located in the Raleigh Heights area north of Reno, the 53 duplexes in this complex are quite attractive and nicely landscaped. Set in a beautiful location at the bottom of Peavine Mountain, the complex is fortunate to have a large community center and a playground on site. This is a non-smoking community.

Dave's Thoughts On Essex Manor

This property is funded through HUD’s Public Housing program. These properties are typically owned and managed by a Public Housing Authority. These properties tend to be much older, as no new public housing has been built in many years. Since the Federal budget has historically (and notoriously) underfunded public housing renovations for decades, these properties tend to have higher vacancies due to uninhabitable units or liveable units that are in poor condition. In addition, since all public housing properties offer rent subsidies, low-income residents only pay rent based on their incomes. For that reason, these properties tend to have longer waiting lists. Since Essex Manor participates in the Public Housing program and has a property based subsidy, if you have a Section 8 voucher, you would have to give up your voucher to move in.
