For our mid-week alert, Affordable Housing Online has eight updates for Section 8, Public Housing, Project-Based Voucher, and more waiting lists! Today's alert is for low-income rental housing in midwestern and southeastern parts of the country.
This is your affordable housing waiting list alert for Wednesday, July 17, 2024:
These waiting lists open today after being closed for application submissions for a period of time. Most of these openings are only for a limited time, so don't delay if an opportunity is right for you.
Lorain County, Ohio Section 8 Voucher Waiting List
Beginning with a large opening, the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) will accept Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher applications for one day only on July 17, 2024, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm ET. This is the first reopening since April 2023.
Applicants will be placed on the waiting list based on the order of the application receipt. Applications can be completed online, with kiosks available at multiple LMHA locations for submission during the opening period.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida Project-Based Voucher Waiting List
Also, the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale (HACFL) is opening its Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications for Rock Island Apartments starting July 17, 2024, at 9:00 am ET.
The application period will close once 72 1-bedroom applications and 150 2-bedroom applications have been received. Rock Island Apartments offers 1 and 2-bedroom units.
Seventy-five applicants will be placed on the 1-bedroom waiting list and 150 on the 2-bedroom waiting list based on the order of received applications. Interested individuals must complete the online application while the waitlist is open.

These waiting lists opened on a previous day and are scheduled to close today. Even though a number of applications have already been submitted, it is still possible to qualify for these waiting lists.
Colorado Springs, Colorado Section 8 Voucher Waiting List
For our first waiting list closure update, the Colorado Springs Housing Authority (CSHA) is accepting Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher applications until July 18, 2024, at 12:00 pm MT. This means the waiting list is closing tonight, right at midnight.
The waiting list has preferences, and selected applicants will be placed on the list by a random lottery in order of preferences. Applicants must complete the application online, with an option for a Spanish pre-application available through the CSHA website.

Greater Lansing Area, Michigan Section 8 Voucher Waiting List
Additionally, the Lansing Housing Commission (LHC) is closing its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list on July 17, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET. The list includes preferences, and 500 applicants will be selected through a random lottery based on these preferences. Applications are to be submitted online via the LHC website.
This waiting list is for Section 8 HCV rental housing assistance in Lansing, East Lansing, Holt, Dimondale, Potterville, Charlotte, Mason, Grand Ledge, Parts of DeWitt and Williamston, Michigan.

Orlando, Florida Public Housing Waiting List
Switching programs, the Orlando Housing Authority (OHA) is accepting Public Housing waiting list applications until July 17, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET. The method of selection for the waiting list is currently unknown. Applications are to be submitted online during the open period.

New Orleans, Louisiana Senior Project-Based Voucher Waiting List
As the first of three apartment announcements, the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) is accepting Senior Section 8 Project-Based Voucher applications for H3C Apartments from July 15, 2024, at 9:00 am to July 22, 2024, at 4:00 pm CT.
This waiting list, open to applicants 55 and older, has not been available since January 2024. Applicants will be placed on the list by the order of application receipt. Applications should be submitted online.

Detroit, Michigan Senior Public Housing Waiting List
In addition, the Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) has opened the waiting list for Senior Public Housing at Woodbridge Senior Village Apartments from July 15, 2024, to August 31, 2024.
This list has been closed since February 2020. The process for selecting applicants is currently unspecified. Applications must be submitted online during the open period.

Norfolk, Virginia Project-Based Voucher and LIHTC Waiting List
Finally, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) will accept applications for Section 8 Project-Based Voucher and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program for Diggs Town Phase I Apartments from June 27, 2024, at 9:00 am to July 29, 2024, at 4:00 pm ET. This list is reopening for the first time since February 2024.
To qualify, household members over 18 (except full-time students) must be employed for at least 15 hours per week for six months unless they are elderly, disabled, or primary caretakers of a blind or disabled person. Applications must be completed online.
